1907. Organized the first automobile race between Paris and Beijing, a distance of about 16 thousand kilometers.

Rally Peking to Paris again in 1931, when avtopromyshlennik from France interested amateurs machines in the conduct of the expedition, which he called the “Yellow Cruise”. In total, the expedition had two teams, one from Europe and one from the Middle East. 80-ies. Organizer Paris-Dakar rally Thierry Sabine, and a multiple winner of motor racing Rene Metzh intend to repeat the marathon in 1931. But the fault of the accident, Thierry Sabine die because of the helicopter crash in the Malian desert in 1986. To pay tribute to the deceased, it was decided to hold rally in his honor.

Sponsor and partner of the race declared a Japanese company Mitsubishi. Start of the first rally began in Paris, but it was a head start in Moscow – the Red Square in August 1992 has gone to a marathon set of machines.
